A Funeral For The "N" Word?

Recently a horse-drawn carriage carried a pine casket containing the N-word through the streets of Motown, USA. Then a funeral was held for the N-word in Hart Plaza on Detroit’s riverfront.

A funeral denotes respect. Did the N-word deserve a funeral? It would seem more appropriate to tear it up, stomp it under foot, and throw it in the river.

How about a nationwide purge of the N-word? How about a day in every city to physically get rid of the N-word? People could bring anything and everything that contains the N-word — cds, dvds, video games, T-shirts, video tapes, books, newspapers, posters, ball caps, hate flyers, records, cassette tapes. Then they could pile it all up and start a bonfire.

As it burns, white people and black people could hold hands and sing “We Shall Overcome.” Then there could be a time of public confession as people apologize for their using and/or listening to that mean and demeaning word.

The resilience and persistence of the N-word is indicative of the terrible harm done by America’s 400 years of blatant racism and racial oppression. In our day whites have almost stopped the public use of the word, while many young blacks have changed the pronunciation and freely use this word with each other — a word designed by racists to demolish their self-esteem.

I believe it is high time for all Americans to recognize, honor, and celebrate the tremendous heroism and endurance of black Americans under their 400 years of abuse and oppression on this continent. Let’s all burn the N-word and shine the light on the glorious legacy of black resistance to injustice.

Then let us focus on positive and heroic words to describe black American’s response to their terrible mistreatment. Here are a few: Overcomers! Resisters of injustice! Survivors! Champions of endurance! Abolitionists! Freedom fighters! Those who escaped from bondage! Incredible human beings!

Personal Responsibility -- Motivation Quotation 12

Motivation Quotation: “People today have a very dull sense of sin. When they are brought to account for their own failures, they blame their circumstances in life, the economic system, or something else, and do not admit any responsibility themselves.” –Toyohiko Kagawa

Motivation Talk: Is anything morally wrong nowadays? Is any behavior sinful? Are people’s behaviors merely the amoral results of their circumstances or heredity? Or are people personally responsible and accountable for their choices of behavior?

A person’s answer to these questions will determine whether he lives as a slave to his whims or as a victor over his self-destructive desires and tendencies. If nothing is morally wrong, then there are no guidelines for our behaviors — we have nothing to direct us but our personal feelings and opinions.

If our behaviors are the result of our circumstances and/or heredity, then we are not responsible for our actions. And we cannot correct, we cannot fix, what we are not responsible for. Thus we become pitiful victims to circumstances — tossed about by every self-destructive whim.

However if we are personally responsible for how we choose to behave, then we have the freedom to redirect our lives. If we choose to and if we will muster the moral courage, we can turn away from our self-destructive behaviors and live morally right!

If we choose to admit the personal responsibility for our sinful behavior and if we take action to turn away from our wrongful actions and thoughts, we will discover tremendous hope! Life can be wonderful if we will exercise the personal courage to slam dunk denial and to begin to hold ourselves to high moral standards of thought and conduct.

 Groceries Or Gross-Reads

Do Kroger and Harris Teeter sell groceries or distribute free “gross-reads”? Well, in Nashville they have chosen to do both.

After DistribuTech, a distributer of free publications, decided to remove a magazine that promotes homosexual behavior from Kroger and Harris Teeter stores, both grocery chains have chosen to put it back on their free racks. The Tennessean reported that the removal of the magazine: “sparked an outcry from local and national gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender groups, who urged members to consider shopping elsewhere.”

It appears that Kroger and Harris Teeter have now quieted the outcry from those promoting homosexual, bisexual, and transgender behavior. But what about the rest of us who find such behavior immoral and disgusting? Why should we and our children be exposed to a magazine promoting such gross reading material?

Are Kroger and Harris Teeter prepared to distribute other agenda related magazines in order to be fair? Will they put out a Baptist magazine for their tens of thousands of Baptist shoppers? A Catholic magazine for their Catholic shoppers? A vegetarian magazine for vegans? A Democrat Party magazine for Democrat shoppers? A nudist magazine for buff lovers? I don’t think so!

I believe people have a right to engage in behavior that I find disgusting, but they don’t have the right to shove that behavior in my face. Therefore, as a regular and frequent Kroger customer I can no longer shop at Kroger. I am now holding my Kroger Plus Card. Excuse me a moment.

I have just torn my Kroger Plus Card into 4 pieces and thrown it into the trash. As groups that promote homosexual behavior urged their members “to consider shopping elsewhere”, so I urge those who believe in historic sexual morality to shop elsewhere!
