There is so much talk about "rights" today. People claim all sorts of "rights" -- even "rights" to demand public approval for behaviors that cultures and societies around the world and through out history have considered immoral and indecent. People demand "rights" for convicted murderers. People even talk about the "rights" of animals.
Yet with all the hoopla about "rights" some groups of people are being ignored. I believe black people have the right to be treated with respect, honor, and equality in our society. Yet many white people still look down on people with a darker skin color. When they encounter a black person, especially a poor black man, they tend to be skeptical and cautious instead of warm, friendly, and embracing. If you are white, I challenge you to care enough to ask a black friend (especially a poor one) about how white people treat him or her in our society. If you will encourage him or her to be open with you and you will listen without being defensive, you will be surprised (even shocked) at what you learn.
Also, in our society the weakest form of human beings have absolutely no "rights", no respect, and no protection -- not even in America. The most innocent of all human beings have absolutely no rights. They can even be killed on a whim (for example if the parents want a girl instead of a boy, the boy can be eliminated). If society will not honor the most basic "right" to protect a person's life, how can any of our "rights" be secure?
On top of it all, some people get offended when I use my "right" to express my opinion on my own web blog. Do we really believe in "rights" or do we just talk about them?

How can a person be both pro choice and no choice -- pro choice on abortion and no choice on homosexuality? After all, if a woman can choose as to whether to have her baby killed or let him or her live, why can't a person with homosexual tendencies or urges (even if they are genetic) choose whether to obey the urges or to overcome them? And if the homosexual has no choice but to obey his or her urges and tendencies, why can't the rest of us use that excuse and say we have no choice but to lie, steal, commit adultery, run red lights, stay in bed all day, cheat on taxes, use drugs, get drunk, and obey whatever other urges or tendencies that cross our mind (or that we inherited)?

Thank You, Lord for the chance to be alive one more day. Thank you, Father. Thank You, Son. Thank You, Holy Spirit. Thank You for being real, alive, and present in this world.
Thank You for Your forgiveness and mercy and Your blood that makes a way for all who choose to come and walk with You. Thank You for the power that You give to all who will accept it, to live a life of freedom from bondage to self-destruction -- a life of personal victory.
Thank You for love, joy, peace, happiness, contentment, self-control, and all the other fruit of Your spirit. And thank You for our material blessings of food, shelter, clothing, transportation, health, sunshine, natural beauty, vision, hearing, the ability to walk, money to pay bills, and the pleasure of being alive.
Thank You for a clear conscious and freedom from guilt and resentment through Your forgiveness. Thank You for political freedom and for the freedom of speech in this land.
Thank You for protecting the USA from experiencing another major terrorist attack since 9/11. Thank You for giving us more time to repent -- to turn away from our evil and self-destruction.
Thank You, Lord, for my personal blessings. Thank You for my family. Thank You for this day set aside by the US government to give You thanks. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You Jesus!

Which of the following 4 choices are "thanksgiving"? A) Saying from your heart, "I am thankful for my family". B) Feeling very thankful for your family. C) Saying from your heart, "Thank You, Lord, for my family". D) Eating a big turkey meal on a national holiday. E) All of the above. Your answer please . . . ___________. And the correct answer is: C Why? You ask. Well, let me tell you. Thanksgiving means "the giving of thanks." And that is choice C. Choices A and B are thankfulness. (Feeling thankful instead of giving thanks). Choice D is a big dinner. And choice E is 2 parts thankfulness, 1 part thanksgiving, and 1 part dinner. Now, it is good to be thankful, and eating a big dinner is nice, but don't forget to acutually give God thanks. After all, we do call it "Thanksgiving Day" and not "Thankfulness Day" or "Big Dinner Day". Thank you for reading this! And thank You, Lord, for giving me the mind, health, and ability to write it. . /./././.'' ; . .:*::: :::: ... . .::::::* ..... :::::: .;;;;'''' '''**** .. .;;./.'' dot . :::::: .;;..,,.. turkey->. .:::::: Stare at the dots for 5 minutes and suddenly you will see the turkey!
